Tha Hackney Look

The Hackney Look  5x3 oil portrait

Another of the neglected series that was so much fun to do. This fellow was being led to a race and had such a bright alert loot to him that he reminded me of a hackney pony.

The Pose 5x3 oil portrait

There should be more storms. They keep me house bound and I tend to stay tied to the easel for longer periods of time.
This past storm was a doozy, shutting down most, if not all of Atlantic Canada. We were not hit as badly here as other parts of NS but when you carry water buckets through snow drifts up to your chest it is pretty hard to remain positive.
If I ever find Shubenacadie Sam, he is dead meat! I don't think I can handle another 6 hours let alone 6 weeks of this misery.

Dropper

Dropper 12x16 oil portrait

This is the last side profile portrait I have from the Neglected Series. It is rather a bittersweet one. This is Dropper and she belonged to a friend whom always allows me to photograph his horses at the track. She was a lovely mare and a personal favorite of both of us but she is no longer with us.

This is one of the reasons I  love portrait work, photographs get lost or faded while a painting remains vivid and ageless.

The neglected series is winding down. Only 11 left. There are some very unique ones coming up because in true procrastinating manner, the hardest ones are left!! Nothing like a storm day to help one wile away the hours in the studio! If the Maritimes continues to get pommeled by Mother Nature and Shubenacadie Sam, I just might finish them all before spring, when I emerge with my camera to search for more inspiration!!

Summer 7x5 Oil Portrait

A mare with a name that makes me wish for warmer weather!! Just dug the house, car and critters out of a massive snowstorm and I really wish I mowing grass than shovelling snow!

965  7x5 Oil Portrait

Horses are such interesting creatures. You can paint them from any angle and they are still beautiful. This is a colt from the local track. Seems a lot of my inspiration of late has come from fast horses that are not moving!!
